There is really no sure fire "cure" for hiccups. A wise uncle once told me that the remedies that people suggest are really only so that they can laugh at you while you're trying them out. His favorite suggestion to people was to hold a pencil between your back teeth and drink a glass of water from the wrong side of the glass... and then he would laugh as they did it.
The only real "cure" is time. The things people try sometimes seem to work because it takes time to try them and by the time you're done trying, your hiccups are gone.
Be patient, that's the only real cure.

Sit in a comfortable position. Put your head back as far as it will go comfortably. Slowly exhale as much air as you can. Sit forward and inhale slowly. This should do it unless the hick-ups were caused from over indulging.

I don't even bother to try any more, they will pass in time. My hick-ups are ridiculous any way, they sound horrible and every one stares at me, I just want to hide.
Good Luck

My brother swallows a spoonful of sugar, not sure if that actually works. Some other people I know swear by drinking water upside down.

Eat a spoonful of sugar.
Hold your breath and drink 10 sips of water.
Have someone scare them out of you.
Have someone to ask you to hickup right then and there... you can't do it!
Hold a black cat and look it in the eyes and say "I want you to have my hickups".... I just made that one up to see if you were paying attention!

I breathe in and out slowly and deeply. They usually go away soon after that. I think what causes them is deprevation of oxygen. I'm not sure. But I think my method works.
