Lol... People just love to ask these kind of questions don't they?

Getting rid of all the ********* and jokes apart, 1 + 1 = 2.

Simple... No rounding up or down. Here we are looking at totally logical and ABSOLUTE numbers. NOT fractions or decimals. Can you count a number of sheep and end up with a value with decimals? NO. The same applies here... 1 sheep and another 1 sheep gives you 2 sheep.

The fact that someone can end up with 1 + 1 = 3 means their thinking is pretty far out. =p

Because 1+1 does = 2. If you think about it that is really the definition of two. ;) Not really all that deep when you strip it down to the basics. Its similar to saying the white horse is white. You might as well be asking why people take it for granted that a triangle has three sides.

There are so many mysteries in mathematics that several lifetimes is not enough to even learn about all of them. I am totally amazed that people obsess about 1+1=2 or 2+2=4 something similar.

Not all people do. The great mathematician Bertrand Russell took pages and pages of very dense mathematical reasoning to prove that 1+1=2 in his major work, Principia Mathematica.

1 + 1 = 3 for sufficiently large values of 1.

Example: 1.35 + 1.35 = 2.70.
With rounding, 1 + 1 = 3.

Also, if you want to be cheesy, 1 + 1 = 1, if you say that a man and woman who marry become "one" with each other.

because it euals two. if people say 1+1 =3 for large quantities, theyre wrong. IF you round, your wrong. 1+1 = 2

its not taken for granted because it is a fact and it makes perfectly logical sense.
