Just curious - I worked in the local Red Cross shelter for the first two weeks after the storm (in NE Mississippi). I know the recovery is progressing very slowly, in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. And I know there is much left to be done, but it seems that the national media can only pay attention to New Orleans, and there are many other areas that were hit by the hurricane much harder.
I have no reason for asking, other than curiosity.

Note: If you go to the Mississippi Gulf Coast today, you will still see mounds of debris that has not been carted off, and places that haven't even been touched since Aug 29, 2005.

Yes, I am contributing; I am helping a friend paint her house ( 7 feet of flood water, she just got new sheetrock installed) I also volunteer at City Park (which desperately needs more help). When my brother gets his house rebuilt, I will help paint that too.

It's sad to say,but after I saw how some of the people were using the money donated,I stopped contributing.I did give what I could in the beginning few months.I know it isn't all of them and the few are ruining it for the others, but I have a hard enough time supporting my own family, sure wouldn't want to take money away from mine only for it to be used to buy drugs.I hate to feel like that, but I do.I think it is time that some of them started taking care of themselves now also and not relying on the government to support them the rest of their lives.Might sound harsh, but seems some just don't want to do anything for themselves.

No, I gave twice. Once through the Bush, Clinton fund and once throught the Red Cross. It was a large amount of money, for me anyway, so I'm not giving anything more. Our church is asking for contributions this coming weekend and I won't be contributing this time. I gave more than I could afford actually when all of this first happened. But I did it voluntarily and didn't say anything about it to anyone up until now. No one knows what I did. I didn't do it for glory or fame, I truly felt bad for all of those who lost so much and I believe in helping those in need. You were very kind in contributing your time to help as well. True spirituality is a factor in regard to this and I am proud to say that's what motivated me to contribute.........

No. I donated all I could, used clothing, travel sized toiletries, gift cards & bottled water. I wish I could have afforded more.
It's time for those people to pick up their bootstraps & start life again, if they've not done so already. I understand most don't want to return for fear of another hurricane taking their homes, belongings & lives. I'm all for them staying where they've relocated, finding work, shelter & providing for themselves & family if they have any.

... I am.. through my church and through my workplace.. my only problem is.. when I hear how badly the funds are being misused.. I wonder if it is wise. I wish I just had one family I could really send things to.. and know that I am really helping. I just don't trust our government not to give our donations away for funding Bush's stupid war...

Contribute? Don't we have an effin' govt. to deal with these things? Oh, wait, Bush is too busy spending money on a war to distract us from his stupidity.
