Victoria Cross, a high order war decoration of the British Empire, founded by Queen Victoria in the 19th century. Most of its awardings are posthumous. ALos in Vietnam war, the americans adopted the abbreviation of the enemy army: the Viet Cong (Victor Charile -or- VC) and that was widespread and widely used by the american media of the day and the 60s-70s-80s generations.

In the British Commonwealth, the Victoria Cross is the highest military decoration for valour in battle. I see some bozo insisted several times on here it was just for the English. He couldn't be farther from the truth. There is plenty of Scots, Irish, Auzzie, Kiwis, Canadians, Jamaicans, South Africians, Indians etc that have all won this award for their courage in past wars. That said, in modern times (post WWII) as far as I know the Victoria Cross has only been awarded to citizens of the United Kingdom while other Commonwealth members have developed their own awards and medals. That said, that does by no means say this award is no longer available to these peoples. If you fight for the Queen, you can win this award.

If you're referring to the Vietnam war, it would be a Viet Cong. They were the Vietnamese enemies, also called "Victor Charlie" or just plain "Charlie".

Why are all the other answers so silly?

and that's the Victoria Cross - awarded to civilians for bravery in England.
