I think the very definition of "groupthink" implies a negative. It basically means there is no possibility for new ideas or dissenting opinions.

I suppose if everyone in the group is very smart, following a smart leader, and generally right all the time it wouldn't be bad. ...but generally groupthink stifles innovation and creative problem solving.

Do you want an example? I would say that any team sport is an excellent example of successful groupthink. People unifying on a single goal.
