The symptoms of pre-eclampsia normally will disappear once the baby is born. Sometimes pre-eclampsia can develop during or even after birth. Normally, at least in the US, women do not die of preeclampsia because they receive appropriate treatment, but this is a problem in the third world. In the US, if a woman dies after childbirth, it is usually because of severe blood loss or an infection.

Preeclampsia is high blood pressure during pregnancy. It can cause strokes to happen while in labor or while pregnant. The only cure for it is to have the baby. Once the baby is born the preeclampsia goes away. Unless the women has had a stroke I doubt anything would happen weeks later. Also preeclampsia at the bad stage goes into full blown eclampsia and that is what causes the problems.

Pre clampsia can cause death if it is not dealt with properly. However, in today's modern world, this is very unlikely. Preclampsia occurs when the mother's blood pressure sky rockets, causing problems for mom and stressing out baby. If it is at all possible, early induction or a C-section will be performed to get mom and baby out of harms way. As for mothers dying during childbirth, most women die because of too much bleeding. Again, with modern medical advances, this does not happen very often because bleeding can be controled and blood transfusions can be perfomed. A few women die from other causes, such as infection. A bleeding death usually occurs almost immediately, death from infection usually takes several days.

Preeclampsia CAN cause death up to a few weeks later, but that's a very rare occurence.

Usually preeclampsia goes away as soon as the baby is born.

With both of my children, though, my blood pressure continued to rise for a few days after birth.

If you have it, your OB should be monitoring you VERY closely both during and immediately after your pregnancy.

Preeclampsia is not something to joke about. A doctor will weigh in all factors, such as how far along you are, how much the baby or babies have developed, what your protien levels in the urine are, what your blood pressure is. With all of that, the doctor will make the call as to when to deliver. But preeclampsia that doesn't disappear after delivery is what is worrysome, because that can lead to death. Basically the fatality rate has dropped with technology, but there are still fatalities. Usually occuring after delivery.

Preeclampsia remains after giving birth in less than 1% of women who have it while they are pregnant. Because of my preeclampsia my doctor wanted to see me in his office within the first couple of days after I was released from the hospital so he could monitor my blood pressure. Since it was still high my doctor put me on blood pressure medication, I was on it for a month and couldn't breastfeed while on the medication.
The greatest risk is while you are in labor. Being in labor raises your blood pressure naturally and when your blood pressure is already high this can cause a stroke, but the doctor can give you medicine to help your blood pressure while in labor also. The risk of stroke is still high even with the medicine (i forget the name) but it does help.
If a woman dies from preeclampsia it will most likely occur during child birth not after because the blood pressure can be better controlled after the baby is born.

well usually after the woman has the child the preeclampsia goes away but i'm sure if the preeclampsia was bad it could have caused other problems that caused the mother not to die immediately.

I've had preeclampsia with all 3 of my pregnancies. You need to have regular care from an OB to monitor your condition as the condition can worsen and become severe pretty quickly. Signs you can watch for yourself include severe headaches that will not go away, spots in the field of vision, and swelling. Your Doctor will need to monitor blood pressure and where there is protein in your urine or not.

Preeclampsia it's self however goes away as soon as the baby is delievered.

Pre-eclampsia

Cause: Hypertention induced by pregnancy.
Prevention: Regular blood pressure checks, regular tests for protein in the urine.
Treatment: Mild pre-eclampsia is treated with bed rest. If more serious it may make it necessary for labour to be induced or a caesarean to be preformed as it can leas to kidney failure in the mother or growth restriction in the baby.

Hope this gives you some idea,

i had pre-eclampsia and it just caused me to have high blood pressure and made me have my son at 36 weeks. After his birth i was fine and so was he. But i guess some women can die from it if it is bad enough.
