Because my flow's so heavy, I have to use both.
But tampons are so much better, because you don't always feel like they're leaking.

DEFINATELY USE A PLASTIC APPLICATOR.
That's my best advice.
Maybe you could also look in a mirror, & see exactly what you're doing.

1. Pull on the string to make sure it's not loose.
2. Put your leg up on a counter/toilet seat.
3. Slide the applicator halfway in.
4. Now, push the 2 pieces of the applicator together.

You shouldn't feel any pain, but if you do, try again.
Practice makes perfect.
=)

PS. I personally like the Kotex ones.

TSS is extremely rare and unless you leave a tampon in for an extemely long time, you should not worry about that.

Tampons are great as they do not smell or leak like a pad can, are undetectable and you can do everything in them (eg. swim, wear tight clothes, run, horse ride).

To insert a tampon, squat down onto your toes with your knees separated. The tampon is to go into the same hole that a male's penis goes (if you have had sex, you will know which one that is).

Using your index finger push the tampon up the hole until your finger has gone into your vagina up to the nail bed. Remove your finger and stand up. Can you feel it at all? If you can't feel a thing great job, that's what you want. If you can feel it, remove it and try again with another one. It may take a while to be able to insert one and then not be able to feel it, but that's ok. You need to become familiar with your body.

Remember to leave the string on the outside of your body. To know when to change a tampon, tug the string gently. If the tampon feels heavy and starts to come out, remove it and insert another one. If it feels light still, it is right to stay in there a bit longer. When you period is heavy, change tampons every few hours and use super or maxi tampons. At the end of the cycle when it is lighter, you can use light absorbency tampons and change them less often.

Welcome to the world of tampons!! Good luck.

If you buy the Tampax starter kit, it comes with an instruction booklet. It's a little box for girls that have just started their periods, or don't use tampons, and it has some small tampons for first-time users, and panty liners, and the little booklet that tells you how to insert it and whatnot. I'd try using tampons with a plastic applicator if I were you, because they don't hurt and slide in easy. Basically, if you still need to practice, lay on the floor or bed. Hold the applicator between your thumb and middle finger, insert it into the vagina, and push the applicator stick with your index finger until it is flush with the rest of the applicator. Every box of tampons will tell you how to do it, but the starter kit has tips, like laying down the first time, that might help you relax. And yes, tampons are WAY better than pads. I haven't had anything bad happen. I can't stand how pads make you feel like a toddler in diapers. Tampons give you such freedom, they don't smell, and as long as you wear a thin liner with them, you never have to worry about leaks or accidents! Good Luck!

I've been wearing them since I was 13 and have never gotten TSS. Its rare, just make sure you leave them in no longer than 4 hrs. They say 8 hrs is safe but I dont leave them in that long just to be safe. I also wear pads at night when I sleep, that way they dont get left in too long. Tampons have the instructions in the box, they are fairly simple. I have always found it easier to put them in and take them out sitting down,Its just works better for some reason. Hope this helps and dont worry, they are a lot better than pads. You'll feel cleaner and less on your period.

I wear pads. Tampons make me cramp worse, so I don't use them much. You can use the thin pads and you don't feel like your wearing a diaper. You can try tampons and decide for yourself which you like better. TSS is rare, but it does happen. They recommend alternating pads and tampons. You might try looking up TSS on the internet and getting all the facts before you decide too.

TAMPONS! Pads suck on the grounds which you should sit down down there in blood at day. i began out utilising tampons at 12 years previous. not something is inaccurate with utilising tampons on your first era, its the age element some human beings think of 11 year olds do not ought to be sticking issues up their vag. Tampons do harm somewhat at first yet you get used to it.

Well I recently just stopped using pads also tampons are so much better because you are less likely to have leaks and you don't have the odor like you would with pads.To me you have more freedom and you aren't consatantly worried about "accidents".It was easier for me to start using tampons after I lost my virginity some people might argue about that but I think it makes it easier and more comfortable. And once you buy them the package will explain how to insert them.

tampons are safe and easy to use, I put one leg up on the toilet bowl and push the tampon in, change the tampon every 4hrs ,you are only at risk of getting TSS if you forget to take it out after a longer period of time, I mean something like 24hrs, and the odour from your body will alert you to this. I vote tampons, very comfortable and no ugly bulges when you wear a nice pair of pants. God Luv Ya

I'm not a real big fan of tampons, but that's only because, since I've had my kids, they stop my period. I liked tampons, but I still had to wear a pantiliner with them. Your risk of getting TSS is slim if you follow the guidelines on what size to wear and how long to wear it. Inserting them is easy, just make sure you're relaxed when you try. If it is uncomfortable to you, you can always remove it and try again.

There are alternatives to tampons, if you're sick of pads. There is the diva cup and the moon cup, that I know of. Basically...it's a cup with a short stick at the bottom so that you can pull it out and place it right. I hear they are more comfortable than tampons. Personally however I feel skeeved about keeping body waste inside of myself until I feel like removing it. So it's pads for me.
