Should I get circumcised?

Question

I'm having some major hygiene issues with keeping it clean. No matter how often I clean under there, with or without soap, etc... it still accumulates smegma and smells terrible. Should I get circumcised?

Okay people have raised some good points, but I think I should provide some more details:

1) for those who asked about my age, I'm turning 19 soon
2) no, it's definitely not an STD (still a virgin)
3)regardless of how often or how hard I clean it, it still becomes gross midway through the day.

Well before you make that decision for sure, try the following. First of all, you only "need" to wash under your foreskin once a day, at most twice a day. When you do that during a shower, pull back your foreskin all the way and wash the area with water and mild soap like you would any other part of your body. Then dry the area as you would any other part of the body as well. If you wash the area too much it actually makes things worse, like it causes redness, irritation, and yes, even a smell possibly.

The second thing you can try is to pull back your foreskin while you pee and wipe the excess urine on a piece of toilet paper or something. This should reduce the smegma and smell significantly. A little smell is normal and okay, an overpowering smell isn't.

If neither of these things work it's also possible you have a minor infection that's causing the smell. If that's the case, see your doctor for either oral medication or some kind of anti-fungal cream. That should take care of the problem. If all the above doesn't work or doesn't apply, then you can consider circumcision.

First talk to your doctor. See if there is an ointment you can use or some sort of powder, I knew a woman with very large breasts that had the same problem and she showered a couple times a day. You might have some sort of bacteria there that is causing the odor. Especially since it is within the confines of a dark warm and moist area. Have you considered using some sort of spray... women have fem. hygiene spray to help in that area so maybe you can use something like that. Maybe even some talcum powder?


.....There is nothing wrong with circumcised or uncircumcised penises.... it's the way its used that counts.... some women have no clue!

I work in a hospital and we have lots of children, adolescents, and men who opt for circumcision for the same reasons. They go home the same day so I don't get to see the after reaction.

Personally I like circumcised men....

It's your body so the bottom line is it's your decision.

How old are you? You can if you want to, but its YOUR CHOICE! do not listen to any one... the long term effect will probably be better if things go ok..

Short term , the pain will be bad and the chance of infection during healing sucks too..

Consult your physician. Judging by what you describe, I'd recommend it - but listen to your own doctor.

talk to a good urologist. if you didn,t have this problem i wouldn,t advise circumsison. it,s unnesicary if you aren,t having problems. bear in mind this opinion, i,m not a ddoctor

Yes brother you should get circumcised immediately. It is good for hygenic purposes and girls just love a circumcised penis.

Yes. Uncircumsised penises are ugly and if it's smelly, that's even worse.
