My sister has been having trouble with her shuffle, the original version, not the new one, and my parents were having trouble as well. You should find a Mac store near you and have them check it out for you. Or you can visit their website, www.apple.com, for troubleshooting and contact info where you can reach a professional who might be able to assist you. They really helped when I had trouble with my laptop, so I'm sure they could help you as well! Good Luck!

restore your ipod and then add the songs again. This will fix it.
