It depends... You might have gotten better responses if you asked this question in the computer programming section but let me just tell you what I know. C++ is still the king if you are going to work in finance or engineering. It is a tough language to master and there always are opportunities for people who are well versed in C++. C is its precessor and still widely used along C++, but to a lesser extent. Java and Visual Basic are relatively new comers threatenig the throne of C++ and they have their plusses. Java is widely used in web applications and VB is good for spreadsheet stuff. nAt thispoint I will let the experts say more on the subject though.

vb.net because it is the newest one out there and after that one is C++ if you want to work on a lot of current projects with big companies because it is still out there a lot.
