Do you mean "The Notebook"? The female lead had Alzheimer's but I don't know her age. The book was much better. The character's name was Allie and was played by two different actresses, Gena Rowlands & Rachel McAdams.

It was called Iris. Dame Judi Dench starred in it. The film was released in 2000/2001. It was about author Iris Murdock and her husband Joh Bayley. Great film.
