why weren't the actresses who played joanna and mimin the movie Rent (trademark)?

I'm assuming you mean the original Joanne and Mimi. Daphne Rubin-Vega (Original Mimi) was pregnant at the time of filming. Also, as amazing as she looks, she looks too old to play a 19 year old. Fredi Walker (Original Joanne) and the director, Chris Columbus, agreed that she looked too old to play Joanne in the movie. She did help with the casting of Traci Thoms (Movie Joanne).

Fredi Walker (who played Joanna on Broadway) didn't want to be in the film. I think she and the director agreed that she was too old for the role. I'm not sure, but I think it's more of a mystery with Daphne Rubin-Vega (who played Mimi on Broadway). She was pregnant during the filming of the movie, but people also say that the director thought she was too old, even though she wanted to be in the film.
