stick it into the usb port and it will pop up on your startbar.
It's just like another floppy drive, open up 'my computer' and it will show "removeable drive" followed by a letter

Most USB "Thumbdrives" (called as such because they're about a size of a thumb) usually don't have any instructions because it's a simple plug-n-play deal!
If you're running Windows 98/ME, you'll have to go to the maker's website to download the drivers in order to work with your computer. XP has these drivers included with the OS.
Thumbdrives will normally take the next available drive letter (like E:, F:, ect.) on your system for use. Just treat them like a hard drive that you can remove from the computer.
If you're interested in storing & using applications on your Thumbdrive, you can check out http://www.portableapps.com for portable software. It's great for travelers that don't have a laptop.

A "Flash Drive" is a small, compact, large floppy. You plug it in to the USB port, and the computer will see it as an added drive in "My Computer". You can open the drive, and the click and drag your files to it. Then when your done, double tic on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the tray next to the clock. Tic on "safely remove Drive X:\" . You'll get a message that it's okay to remove the flash drive. Remove the drive from the USB port.

I will try to explain in simple wordings:
First of all there are 2 sides of USB match and plug-in to the computer. You will see in the right corner a pop-up will tell you that your new mass-storage device is installed and ready for use. Click on My Computer and you will find the additional drive which is actually your USB drive. Copy what ever you want to that flash drive and DON'T JUST REMOVE IT. Go back to the icon which will be in your try (kind of box with arrow on top) double click it and the window will open it for you. Just select that Flash drive and click Stop. Once you see that Its Safe to remove..will be display, take out your drive. Repeat this process for protection of your data.

Most work just like a hard drive, plug them in, and then copy, save to them Some larger sizes 1gig and above may require a driver loaded to work with windows 98. XP is not a problem. Open "My Computer" and right click properties on the drive, and you can rename the item to something like 512mg USB, to make it easier to find. Be careful placing passwords etc. on them. If the drive is lost, people can get access to your private information.

If you're running Windows XP, all you need to do is plug it in. You can open "My Computer" then find the new drive. It would be something like "D" or "E". Double click the folder and paste the files in. Just make sure you eject it before you rip it out of your computer.
