I have been told that a person can find the answer to anything on Yahoo! So here goes... I bought a plastic toilet seat and have tightened the bolts as instructed but it shifts from side to side. Very annoying! Does anyone have a solution to the problem?

sounds like you have the plastic bolts is this right?? if so then get rid of them and get a pair of the brass bolts like you would use to set a toilet, then get a fender washer and a lock washer at any hardware store. putthem in place of the plastic ones. careful not to tighten them too much as you can crack or break the toilet----good an snug this will solve the problem.

Sounds like the bolts are probably plastic too. If you can't get it tight with a screw drvr (on top) and pliers (for bottom), try this....unscrew the bolt, wrap it with a soft plyable tape like medical tape or masking tape. Then screw the bolt back in to the nut. Good Luck! :)

The hole the bolts went through is too big, put a sleeve in it, or tighten it more with a wrench. If it breaks, take it back to the store.

some seats come with a foam tape that has holes in them. Place these foam pads over the holes this will help keep the seat from moving and help to tighten the bolts.

Good luck
