Financially? Possibly.
Mentally? Absolutely.
Remodelling is a process that may be overwhelming, frustrating, messy, wearing and expensive.....in the best case scenario. To alleviate some of the stress (especially if it's a residence you are occupying) it is imperative to work with a project manager who is fully aware of all the details of the work: when sub-contractors are to report to the site, when items are to be ordered/delivered, scheduling, budget, quality of work, etc. Good communication is essential. Having a single person to whom you may communicate your vision for the job and who is sensitive to your budget and lifestyle is far preferable to having to keep track of several contractors and their schedules. You do not want to be in the position of having one phase of the job completed only to find that the person responsible for the next phase has taken another job. A project manager will take on this headache for you.....or should. Interview several and ask for references and, if possible, see examples of their work on projects similar to your. Good luck.

Well generally speaking the painters can't paint till the drywallers are finished. So if the ppl hanging drywall don't show up then you got to tell the painter not to show up then they;ll say well the next opening is in like three monthes, well you want them done painting before you put in your new carpet. Not sure what type of remodel your talking about. I can see where it could cause frustration dealing with several subcontractors though. Depending on who you go with to do the remodel they will have all the work scheduled, and take care of the details for you.

If you find a reputable contractor (ask for references) it is because they can discuss total budget with you and coordinate all the various aspects; i.e. structure, electrical, plumbing, etc. That coordination alone can save you numerous headaches in trying to get the project to go smoothly as each may depend on the others scheculing.
