L = 2W + 3
P = 2L + 2W
= 2(2W+3) + 2W
= 4W + 6 + 2W
= 6W + 6

6W + 6 = 36
6W = 30
W = 5
L = 2W+3 = 13

Now check your work:
"The length of a rectangular garden is 3yd more than twice its width." Yep. Width = 5. Twice width = 10. 3 more is 13.
"The perimeter is 36yd." Yep. 13 + 5 + 13 + 5 = 36.

call the width of that garden x.
so the length is: 2x +3
The parameters is 36 yd
so 2* [ x + ( 2x+3) ] =36
=> 2 * ( 3x +3 ) =36
=> x =5 yd.
so : the width is 5 yds, the length is 13 yds
