the reason of confession

Many reasons. Maybe they feel guilty for what they have done. People generally have a conscience and if they do something bad it nags at them untill they have confessed and come clean.

Example: The Tell Tale Heart. The guy killed an old man that had done nothing to him. He was just irritated/paranoid of the old man's glass eye. After the deed was done, he could hear the beating of the old man's heart over and over again untill it drove him crazy and he had to confess it.

There are many reasons to confess. One of the most compelling would be the fact that any *normal* and *intact* person has a concious (sorry, Ted Bundy didn't...he was a sociopath). This consious eats the person up inside until they need to get it off their chest. Also, in many religions confession is the only way to be able to keep close to God. God does not like sin and so you must confess to rid yourself of sin.

As a Catholic, I confessed, not because I felt guilty, but because I wanted to be able to talk stuff out in a anonomous manner with someone who I could, supposedly, trust. I got through a lot stuff in the confessional that I didn't want to tell my friends/family, but was eating me up inside. I'm a lapsed Catholic now, but I really think Confession is a good thing, as long as you have a good priest to talk to.

A crime?
Usually as part of a plea bargain, whereby the prosecution offers a reduced charge or a lighter sentence to avoid the time, expense and uncertain outcome of a trial.

A sin?
Judeo-Christian belief systems include the concept of divine forgiveness, but usually only if the sinner acknowledged their sins.

Maybe because they have a guilty conscience and just have to tell the truth. Like in Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. Only read the book, the movie sucks!

It would depend on who you are confessing to.People go to confession for religious reasons, people confess to spouses for relief, people confess to friends to save a friendship, and those who confess to the law are just STUPID!

Catholics and criminals do it for the same reason. They expect a lighter sentence for their crimes.

Quitelova... Why do religious people like so much to misquote the bible and know so little about the religion they profess to build their life on. Exactly WHEN did Jesus say he was sorry while on the cross???? Never.

if you mean through the catholic church, then its simple...so the priest can know all about your life lol...No really it is done under the pretenses that you have done wrong and are truely sorry for it....because GOD forgives.
oh and we also confess because we have a guilty complex
have a good one
