I would have never considered a ferret as a pet...until my husband "adopted" one by surprise for my oldest's 10th birthday. Now I love it. I actually don't have much problem with the smell, he's not any worse than a hamster as long as the cage and litter box is kept clean. The info I've gotten also says to bathe the ferret frequently to keep odor down, but I have to admit that it's been a couple of months without, and he doesn't smell awful. There's also a water additive called Bi-Odor that you can buy that's supposed to keep them sweet smelling (I've used it, now don't, there is a slight difference).
As for biting, some do, some don't. Ours is friendly, likes to play and jump on feet when walking by. He nips when playing, but nothing close to an actual bite. My 4 yr. old loves him, but is afraid of him jumping on his feet.
If you have little ones, you definitely need to supervise them when the ferret is loose.
This is awful long, hope it helped, good luck!

Ferrets do have scent glands that need to be removed, or you'll be sorry. Unfortunately, the procedure isn't perfect. You'll always get a little of that smell, even after the bath. De-scenting just makes it tollerable.
Ferrets are cute critters, but I don't recommend them for a family with young children. They are predators, which means they have long, pointy teeth. If they're held frequently from a young age, they usually grow up quite tame and don't bite much. But if they decide to do some damage, you'll know it.
The main reason I'd discourage you from getting a ferret is the probability that your pet will escape and die alone outdoors. Ferrets have a supernatural ability to be sneaky, and it only takes one incident of your child leaving a door open, and he's gone. And they don't come back.
Ferrets are great pets if you're single or a couple with no kids, but if you've got kids, get a puppy.

Ferrets do smell, especially hobs (males) and Jill's (females) aren't quite so bad. But ferrets being stinky is a bonus because if you have ferrets, you'll never have rats, but i do think you can have them de-scented but then wild rats won't be scared of them. You are best off getting a baby ferret and handling it as much as possibly, preferably a home where they have been handled from a very young age. You do get ferret rescue places but i don't think they would let you have one for a Xmas present. If your ferret starts to bite the best thing to do is flick its nose and do this every time it bites or tries to bite, nice and hard in the end of it's nose. It will soon stop biting.

Yes Farrets are very stinky. They can go potty in a litter pan, but you have to train them, other wise they go potty in corners.
No I would not get one with little kids around. They will bite, and can draw blood. I had one and it bit my toe. Unless you work with it. You can train them. Once is did get used to us it was fine.
When you get one you have to get a license or permit for it. The farret can run you about 120.00. They are fixed and deskunked when you get them, but they still have an oder to them. But make sure it is fixed. We had a female. My son got it from a freind and it wasn't fixed. When it came in to heat, I didn't know it was. If a female is not bred it will slowly bleed to death. That is what happened to her. It was too late by the time we figured it out.
They can be great little pets, once they get over being timid and get used to you. But if you have two little kids, you might find you won't have the time it takes to take care of a farret. If you don't want them to stink, you would have to give them a bath every day to avoid it. We did have the one for over a year and then had to get rid of it because of where I lived. You have to make sure you have a cage for it, then training it to go in the liter, then food. But whaether you get one or not is still your decesion. No one can talk you out of it except yourself. I did like the one I had, but I was the one ending up cleaning it all the time. My kids liked and wanted to play with it, but not clean it. So it was just another chore on my list of many.
Hope this helps you some. Have a nice night.

I would suggest that you stay away from getting a ferret. Yes they are cute. BUT Ferrets ARE Nocturnal and YES they have an odor. (STINK) A ferret is an animal that needs care such as washing as well as keeping the cage clean and fresh water and food. SOOOO, unless they will be cared for properly then I say again NO, don't get any. And OH, No they don't bite.

Ferrets are not good to have with very young kids as they can bite. You can remove the glands to get rid of their smell. However, these animals like to chew everything, including wires. Only good if you really understand these animals. A better pet would be a cat or a dog. But, do research as not all breeds work well with young kids :)

you are able to try some boiled (non pro) chopped up hen or turkey. you additionally can try some intense high quality moist kitten nutrition like Innova, pussycat well-being, Felidae, is appropriate till she is 8 or 9 months previous. you additionally can try including purely a sprint of water to soften her nutrition, yet do not circulate away it sitting too long or it is going to rot, so throw out what she does not eat. be careful what styles of nutrition you feed her, as many manufacturers of extra decrease priced ferret (and kitten) meals use corn as a filler. they are able to not precise digest culmination or vegetables as they are strict meat eaters, and would reason them some intense intestinal issues. My ferrets particularly like 8 in a million suitable ferret nutrition plan, yet there are a number of others to chosen from. only verify that corn isn't listed as between the suited 5 components. you additionally can placed money into some supplements for ferrets too, on your choosy eater to verify she is getting the right quantity of nutrition to maintain her wholesome.

Marshalls Ferrets are descented and neutered/spayed. They are easily litter box trained and make great pets for people with children (as long as they are supervised!)
