My boss's daughter is ten, and can't read. She has a hard time comprehending things, remembering things, although she seems very bright. She's not mentally retarded, or anything like that. I have minimal knowledge about dyslexia and wanted to know if the schools test for this? She has been in LD for 4 years now but sadly hasn't helped her learn to read...she can't hardly recognize the letters no less read words. If anyone has any links for information, or information about how to get her tested for this, whether the public school system will test her or what....I'd appreciate any info you can give me that I can pass on!

Unfortunatly schools will no longger test for or help treat dyslexia. I am dyslexic and know how hard it can be. I also work with a woman who at almost 50 has trouble reading... However both of us have gotten bast that and moved forward with our educations. She can do it!

I would recomend something along the lines of hooked on phonics. It helped me, ALOT! (http://www.hop.com/)

They should absolutely look into the Davis Dyslexia Correction program. It is 97% effective and is a fantastic, creative-based program that recognizes the incredible/gifted minds that Dyslexics have. It uses their natural talents/thinking style to get to the root of learning disability - not just the symptoms.

Check it out at www.dyslexia.com or have your boss get the book, The Gift of Dyslexia by Ronald D. Davis.
