What Happens During An Ultrasound Procedure?
You will probably be asked to lie down on a bed or table for the scan. Clothing over the area to be scanned is removed, and a special warm oil or gel is applied to the skin. This is to achieve good contact as the transducer is passed back and forth.
Ultrasonic waves are inaudible and cause no sensation, though pressure from the transducer may be uncomfortable. The scan usually takes about 15 minutes. During the procedure, you will probably be able to watch the ultrasound images on the screen attached to the scanner.
When a scan is performed in conjunction with a biopsy, a local anesthetic reduces or eliminates any discomfort.
Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the test.
Ultrasound is very safe and painless, so there is little risk.

An ultrasound is exactly what it sounds like it is a very high pitched sound (well out of human hearing range) and is uses sound at this frequency to penetrate to human body (this is not uncomfortable and cannot be felt).
The sound bounces back off the body parts and you get a picture of what the objects inside the body looks like. It is very much like a pregnancy ultrasound where the baby is examined. It is very harmless to the baby and mother though and it cannot be felt by either.
In short you have nothing at all to worry about for this test i hope you have good results from your test and that all will turn out well with whatever the doctor decides.

Yes, it is very much like an ultrasound done during pregnancy. They will be focusing on the area under your right rib cage, however. Occasionally they may press the transducer onto the abdomen rather hard, which might cause a little pain if your are already tender. As tests go, this is one of the more comfortable ones.

No they don't hurt at all in comparison to the pain you are having with your gallbladder. And, yes it is the very same idea as the ultrasound you get from the ob/gyn. Another great thing now is that they can actually remove your gallbladder while you are pregnant if it is causing severe problems.

MOSTLY these people are quite right
Ultrasound is a painless technique - especially when doing things like examining a healthy pregnancy
HOWEVER if you are looking for gall bladder disease, it can hurt just a little when they push the probe up under your ribs to try and get a picture of your gallbladder, if you have cholecystitis. Just bear this in mind.
If your gallbladder isn't particularly inflamed or painful then it shouldn't hurt.

Yes, all ultrasounds are the same. The ultrasound itself never hurts. Sometimes they do other things with an ultrasound that could be painful (such as an amniocentesis) but the ultrasound itself is pain free.

Ultrasounds are not painful.
They have to push the ultrasound device sometimes onto you a little bit to be able to see more clearly. This could hurt if sensitive to touch.
and YES it is the same ultrasound machine they use for pregnancy.

I had an ultrasound for gallbladder and it did NOT hurt. Since you are pregnant- are you referring is it the same? I have not had one for pregnancy, but am sure it's the same, as I've seen it done.

the most uncomfortable part about an ultrasound is the cold jelly that they put on your belly, then they just take a plastic instrument and gently rub your belly with it. It does not hurt at all.

No reason for it to hurt, they just run the scanner over your belly and it uses sound waves to make the picture. How COULD it hurt?
Unless of course you get a nasty nurse like my wife had and she pushes down too hard... if thats the case, request someone else complete it for you.
