The song was allegedly inspired by a child's painting made by Julian Lennon, which showed a girl called Lucy riding on horseback with colored diamonds. The image of that painting also inspired the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds segment of the movie Yellow Submarine.

Anyway, it was rumored that the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was another term for LSD. A very infamous drug during the 60s and 70s.

Devon is right, the song was from one of the band members kid. Apparently, the kid drew a picture. The band memebr asked, "what is that?" the kid said the title of the song "That's Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"

So you'd have to ask a schoolchild why he drew the picture.

"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" comes from a drawing done by Julian Lennon. According to Julian nowadays, he's not too sure why he choose to call his drawing that. :)

lucy is that girl that was mauled by rabid weasels in 1996. She got diamonds to go into the sky by throwing them.

i guess sean or julian lennon drew a picture in school and named it lucy in the sky with diamonds. john lennon wrote a song about it.
