Have them bring jackets so they can play outside, unless it is raining. Rent some DVDs, video games, pop some pop corn. Let them help you make some cookies.

Maybe have an indoor campout. throw sleeping bags on the living room floor, make some treats, like smores, get flashlites & tell ghost stories in the dark, have a scavenger hunt, etc.

make a scavenger hunt inside the house with clues and prizes for everybody. you could also do some sort of arts and crafts project that has to do with your sons interests.

Nine's on the cusp of being a 'tween. Get about five to seven horror flicks on DVD, and they'll entertain themselves.
Seriously, nine year old boys don't like clowns, if you do that, he'll get his butt kicked at school.

I would let them stay up as long as they want (it sounds like its really cool, but they really dont stay up too late) and give them the choice of renting movies and pizzas or video game night. Let them have a choice in it too. Dont forget the popcorn too.

Myabe you all can go bowling or order for inflatables, you know, fun things like that, or you can ask for a clown to come over, things like that.
