I really wished that it would. It's not the style of music that I have a problem with. It is the fact that this particular genre is dominated by people who talk about nothing but sex, drugs, and violence. These things have been talked about in all types of music, but none as strongly as hip hop. If hip hop communicated positive messages and gave inspiration, it still wouldn't be MY favorite, but I would hate it a lot less. Now, rap is just shallow. Why is that?
P.S. What genre do you think will be in style after the hip hop age? And is anyone else tired of popularizing a new genre every decade? I really wish that people could see past all the junk and pick out the music that really matters.

I just want you to understand that I'm not discriminating any particular genre. I'm just trying to point out that there is alot of crap music and hip hop right now makes up a good 50% of it.

Like someone else said, I don't think the soul of hip hop will ever die. Personally, I love hip hop. It's those candy rappers and the cookie-cutter MC's along with the commercialized, bling-infested, money driven, half-naked video girl riddled BS impersonating hip hop that I can't stand. I definitely can't wait for that mess to die out. But as for real hip hop...
Interestingly enough, I find that most people who say they don't like rap/hip hop and complain about rap's many vices don't realize that they're only seeing one dimension of hip hop. Most of them base their opinions on the kind of rap that the mainstream media force feeds us day in and day out. I'm here to tell you that not all rap/hip hop emphasizes materialism, misogyny or is filled with profanity (i.e. - conscious rap, Christian rap, etc.). And contrary to popular belief, there are also many hip hop artists out there who have positive things to say, but unfortunately, you'll rarely (if ever) find any of them in the mainstream media. Greedy record companies and good ol' Corporate America saw that the more controversial aspects of the music (violence, misogyny, money, etc.) resulted in record sales, so they took it and ran with it, shoving it in our faces and filling our ears with it every chance they get. So what do they do next? They condition the masses and flood the market with whatever "trend du jour" makes them the most money as opposed to actual talent, variety and substance. So all in all, there's still some good, quality hip hop out there for those that bother to look for it, but you definitely won't find it in the mainstream.
As for which genre will take over after mainstream hip hop's popularity dies down...hard to say. Whatever genre the big wigs tell the masses to like I guess (you do realize "tastemaker" is a very common term in the music industry, right?).

Do I get tired of a new genre every decade? Hell no, if it weren't for evolving music, rock would never have been born (and I mean real rock, not some of the fake stuff that's being paraded around today).
I see where you are coming from with this whole rap thing. I've seen hip hop videos on TV and it's mostly just rappers showing off their money and having lots of half naked girls around them. Which isn't really a positive message to be sending to people, especially when a big part oftheir audience is young teenagers. A while back there were some guys walking down the hallways of my school blasting their hip hop music. The next day, I saw the same guys pushing around some girls, calling them "sluts" and things like that, and the girls just giggled like it was something to be proud of. It was really sad to watch.
Anyways, I have no idea what's going to be in style after this. Something completely unheard of and great, I hope. I'm looking for something new and original. I hate a lot of today's music, to tell you the truth.

I must say that HipHop will never die! HipHop has been around for years and there is no plan on slowing down! Rappers only talk about things that they have experienced. I'm sorry but everyone couldn't grow up middle class or rich. Sex, drugs, money and violence are all things that they have gone through. Plus there are inspiriational (postive) hiphop out there such as Common, Kanye West, Dilated Peoples, Talib Kweli.Trying listening to that and get over it!
Haters! Stop hating!

I understand your thoughts, but rock, country, and rap all have the same subjects. You may just get it more with rap bc they throw the lyrics up with sick beats that you can't help but to listen to. I myself hope that rap sticks around forever. I love it. You can dance to it too. You don't go to the club and dance to All American Rejects......point made.
