If money up for your children, for thier future, open a C.O.D account. You can open an account for each child under their name with your name as head of the account. To open these accounts you can start off with as little as ten- fifteen dollars. The accounts just sit in the bank and build interest. Add ten dollars or more each month into these accounts and the more and more interest it will build. For you and your spouse get two savings accounts and checking. In the savings put two three hundred dollars in and let them sit and build interest. Then only use the checking account to survive for at least two years. If you wait longer before touching the savings accounts then you have an higheer amount when you decide to retire or one of you to just be employed. I know this sounds simpler than it is, that is why I have given you the smallest amounts you can open savings accounts with. It does work though and will help later in life. I have opened the C.O.D accounts for my children, because I do not want them to start out with nothing!
