I'm a straight person that thinks that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. Most people would never choose to be someone who they would have to hide from everyone else, in order to get and keep a job, you know?

The reason you are confused about this matter is because human sexuality starts mentally (fantasizing) and becomes physical later. The brain can be compared to exercising. You will develope either strength or endurence muscles depending on your work-out. The brain dispences chemicals and hormones into the body. A person who becomes depressed sends out harmful chemicals from the brain and helpful chemicals from happy thoughts. The same is true with sexual thoughts. How you think develops your sexual orientation. This is a fact! You are not "born that way". Heterosexuals choose their sexual appetite just as homosexuals do, by thinking (fantasizing) about it.
No matter what your sexual orientation is, if you have a strong attraction for someone, get all excited and they make a comment that offends you, suddenly the sexual urge disappears. Again, this demonstrates sex, for humans, is very much mental. Otherwise, you would have to say we are animals who do not have free will (choice).

It's a choice; just like when a friends ask you if you what a cigarette, at that point you have a choice to make:Be cool with my friends and smoke or save my lungs from cancer and not smoke.
Sexuality is the same way. You and anyone else know in their heart that something is wrong with a man & a man or a woman & a woman being sexualy intamate. So when that critical time comes where some fool ask if you want to engage in homosexual sex....right there, that's where it's time to make the choice: Be cool and accepted by my peers or honor God and my parents by staying away from such abomination.
The scientist are gonna lie to you all day every day; hair color is in the genes, skin color is in the genes, gender is in the genes, but sexuality is a choice.
Maybe you and others have unfortunately stumbled into the devils trap of homosexuality and find it very hard to get out of;but that still doesnt change the fact that its a choice.

As I always say if people think becoming gay is a choice, then the person who believes that should prove the point and have sex with their same sex. Till then, get a life!

Good point. Ask a straight person who thinks sexuality is a choice whether they could CHOOSE to be sexually attracted to someone of the same sex. But like one other person said, they are not looking at it logically.

What if you're bisexual? Then you really are making a choice every time you get with someone.
Ah, maybe not. I'm attracted to men and women and I never know what I'm going to be feeling on any given day. But I might try to choose women over men because dudes get uglier and uglier to me the older they get. (BTW what's up with that?) Unfortunatly I'm getting older too.
So I can't choose who I am attracted to but I can choose who I pursue.

I'm sorry to say but you will never convince the people who believe sexual orientation is a choice.
They're not coming at this logically, they're coming from an emotional uneducated point of view.
Do yourself a favor and let them continue to spout their stupidity....you've got much better things to do with your time.

Reality check dude.
X and Y chromosomes determine physical definition of male and female.
If, after genetic, Judaic, Christian and Islamic evidence which proves humans were created to be male and female and not to be homosexual, you still refuse and continue with a homosexual lifestyle -- then that is choice.
Basic facts of life dude:
If you have a penis - You're a Man.
If you have a vagina - You're a Woman.
If you can't or won't accept that and you want to become something you are not (going against or totally rejecting your genetic make-up), then you're homosexual and that wasn't caused by your genetics.

I don't believe people choose to be gay. I think it's biologically programmed in you.
But, I do believe straight people choose to experiment. They occasionally have gay sex but they prefer a heterosexual long-term relationships.

I think, particularly among many parents/family, they prefer to believe that somebody made their kid turn that way. After all, if somebody made them turn gay, they have somebody to blame. If their child was born gay, maybe they fear it was in their genetics.
It is a sad fact that some parents look at their children as little clones of themselves. They just can’t handle the idea that they are their own person.
