I need to open a port for a program, and according to www.portforward.com i have to get into my router's website and log in and change the info, etc, is that safe?

great.firefox - I have firefox already and I love it!

I'm still unsure, some answers are negative, some are positive, some neutral. I can't decide!

No it is not safe!!!! But in order to satisfy your curiosity check with your ISP. your router's manufacturer and with the software manufacturer that you wont to use. And taking the thing one step further, check with your security software manufacturer. My advice is "don't do it" unless you don't care who gets in your computer from the back door.

There is always a risk on unlocking doors but if you need to and know what can and will be done on that port, it is OK. The risk is always much higher to open a port that you don't know or don't have a good reason to open.

lol are you doing this for bit torrent or something? opening a couple of ports on your router is fine and will speed up your torrent downloads lots. also it can be done for online gaming. anyway yeah its fine.

Use utorrent (standalone as its smaller download and still works perfect) if thats where your heading it does all the work without portforwarding.
