the parents, teachers don't have enough time to spend with them. As far as teaching.

I have a friend who has 6 kids she is my age 30. There is nothing wrong with her son. He shouldn't be in Special Ed.But, because he acts out and has been disobedient to his teacher. They teacher recommended him to be put in a slow class. He was and now gets SSI check.
When i have him at my home sometimes, my 10 yr old son helps him (12 yr old) to read, math and study. I realized that he is not slow but he need time invested in him so he can learn. When i go to visit them i notice that they don't have any books or anything educational in their home. Some kids don't learn at the same speed as other kids period. Now she (mom)knows that he shouldn't get SSI but she is used to the income. I feel so sorry for him. Do you think there are more of these cases?

This is a poll thanks.

This is a problem and in some places, like NYC, kids who should be, may not be referred to special edu. because administrations don't want to have so many kids with that designation. He must've had a full evaluation, what did the reports say? Some children respond differently to peers (your son) than adults(his teachers).
But back to your poll, the purpose of the classification is so that children can get the help they need. That includes a child who is emotionally disturbed. A child that really doesn't belong in special edu. would be able to "catch up" pretty quickly given added attention. So it depends on the child, the parent(s), teacher(s), evaluator(s), and the school.

I think there are a lot of kids that teachers' just don't have the patience for , so that's where they stick them- special ed. And, why would the kids complain, at least high school kids, it's an easy "A" right? I had a friend that took the special ed test in high school and did bad on purpose bc he wanted to be in the easy classes, and get a good GPA.

i understand what you recommend! I even have extra momentos from my first being pregnant than with my 2nd too. because of the fact it replaced into the "first time" she will have the skill to constantly have a definite place in my heart! I had a thoroughly diverse pregancy and beginning with my 2nd nevertheless, so I even have various diverse studies that I share in basic terms together with her nevertheless, so in a fashion, I even have probably an analogous volume of "specific" with each and every of them. (if it is clever!) I bear in mind with my first, the thrill of attempting to "decide" a thank you to be a mommy and shelter a toddler... and the 2nd time, I bear in mind understanding what i necessary, the instruction and exhilaration and being able to appreciate i'm getting a 2nd shot and function it slightly much less complicated understanding i've got finished it formerly (much less stress)! I additionally had extra suitable style and nursery decor the 2nd time. the 1st time, it replaced into "what does toddler want?" 2nd time replaced into extra like, what do I "choose" for the toddler? =D

I agree with Tunafish. When you have 20 or 30 kids in a class you can't exactly do one-on-one with the kids who need it. Though my brother was in Special Ed and speech therapy and now you wouldn't even know anything was wrong.

He'll be okay. My brother was in a special class in Elementary. And now He's in school to be an Engineer. Elementary is not the final say. he might benefit from the extra attention and work harder to proove he doesn't need it. This might give him the push he needs.

Maybe. Also, some people home school their kids because they can stay closer to the parents, rather than other kids.

i agree with you. i believe the school district just groups kids together that misbehaves and puts them in one teacher's classroom... Some, not all, of these children just need some individual attention to build up their grades~~ but, unfortunately they don't receive it at home!...and this inhibits their academic abilities.

i think they are there so they can get one on one help, unlike in the regular classroom where at some schools, the classes are larger.
