Mine slipped out of my hoodie and fell in a public toilet. I fished out the phone then boiled my hand to kill the germs, but I'm not sure what to do with the phone. Should I just throw it away or is there some way to clean it?

Yeah, I debated on whether or not to leave it, but then I didn't want someone to have all my numbers and messages. It looked like the toilet had just been cleaned... thank God!

Okay, sadly enough the husband of one of my friends has had a similar problem... he repairs toilets. They called the cell phone company to see if they had suggestions on what to do. The cell company told her NOT to turn on the phone. If you can remove the battery do that. Get a hair dryer and try to get the air to flow to the inside as much as possible. Leave the phone open and airing for 3-5 days. Then put the battery back in and see if it will turn on.
To clean the outside, I would take a paper towel and apply rubbing alcohol to the outside. The alcohol will kill any germs present, evaporate quickly, and not do any further liquid damage. For the ear piece and mouth piece, take a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol (not dripping) and clean as best you can.
You might want to also check with your cell phone service and see if you carry insurance on the phone. That might save you the trouble of scrubbing up.
Hope this helps.

There's really nothing you can do about it. It's never happened to me personally, but my cousin dropped hers in a few times. If you had a warranty on the phone, then you should just be able to call your phone company and they'll send you a new one. Otherwise, you'll have to buy a new one. Just think of it as an upgrade, in a sense.

I would advice that you remove the battery and boil the rest of the phone on an outside covered grill.... Best way to ensure the thing is dead.

No, but I've always wanted to.
But seriously,...
If your phone is still operational after being submerged beneath the fount of knowledge, then scrubbing it with a damp rag and disinfectant soap should do the trick. I'd bet money your phone is fried anyway.

I think you're pretty much screwed. My little sister dropped my phone in a bowl of cereal by mistake on my prom night! I was pissed. Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. Buy a new and improved phone (and a case).

Your phone is shot! There is no saving a phone from water damage. You can dry it out, but it will have crazy things go on like continuous vibrating. Throw the phone away - and I hope your hand is alright. ;-)

You should be more concerned about the inside of the phone than the outside. Take the battery out, let it dry, & wipe it off with a dissinfectant wipe.

so, my dad usually keeps his phone in the cup-holder in his car. one day he put an actual cup of water in the cup holder, and later, while he was driving, put his cell phone in it without thinking. he wrapped his phone in a sock, turned on our oven to 115 degrees, and put the phone in overnight. the next morning, the phone started working, which blew me away because i though he was totally freaking crazy to put his phone in the oven. i was going to recommend this, but on second though, maybe don't try it. good luck though. that's a bummer.
