Cleaning the Throttle Body should not in any way affect the MAF
now if the MAF was also cleaned it may have damaged the tiny
sensor wire or its coating and then it will read crazy... Most shops will not clean a MAF with any type of Spray or Carb/Choke
Cleaner... they know better... good luck

On the search line of your browser, type in "MAF sensor cleaning" Yahoo! search shows 449 references to cleaning the MAF sensor. If the person who cleaned your TB wasn't careful and screwed up those sensor wires, that would account for the damage. Read some of the tips on cleaning the MAF sensor to see if maybe some of the gunk cleaned off the TB lodged on the sensor wires. A very small amount of oil will screw them up.

The only thing that I can think of is take your car to a different dealership and have another tech have a look for you and if it is confirmed that the problem was caused by the first tech get all the paperwork necessary from the second tech and take it back to the first one if they still deny it TAKE THEM TO COURT!!! Good luck!!!The MAF sensor will cost you around $ 400 can say that I blame you if it was my car I would be pissed.........

good question.... you can check for a residue or a film on the MAF. Other than that there is no way to prove it sadly.unlees you had test results before and after, but i doubt you would as who does? Im sorry your mechanic duped you. Thats why the industry is falling apart...

if you know anyone that works at a ford dealer, Volkswagen dealer or, automotive shop will alldata have prove that certain chemicals harm MAF sensors. now the problem is proving that he is the one that caused the problem.
look up a 2001 Volkswagen jetta and check the Tab's for MAF cleaning procedures, it wall tell what you want to know.
sorry for your luck
