I don't think everyone needs primer, I understand it as a base for placing the ultimate product on; i.e. lash primer that could be voluminising under the mascara; primer for maybe some oily skins that foundations slide off of...

I don't use much foundation, only a little powder, and the only primer that I use is eye primer. I find it useful because it seems to let the eyeshadow and liner 'grip' onto the eyes and doesn't smudge or melt away; plus, when it comes to removing the makeup, it actually removes faster and cleaner as the makeup is stuck onto the primer and not the eye. If I put eyeliner on without primer, for instance, it smudges easier and sort of seeps into the skin a bit more and makes removal harder.

The other reason I can think of that people might want to use primer is if it also evens out tone. Very few people have perfectly evenly-toned skin, so using primer can provide a good base to start with, and colours won't appear blotchy or unblended.

No you don't have to use a primer, its all down to personal preference really.

Just like you prime a wall before you paint it, you can prime your face before you apply foundation. Primers are a relatively new idea in the makeup industry and you can but them just about every where now. They actually work much like a moisturiser does under your foundation: they ease the application of foundation and are meant to create a barrier between foundation and skin. But primers are said to add even more than moistuisers can in that hey'll even out skin tone, help your makeup stay on longer and absorb excess oil.

There are other benefits too:
They allow foundation to "stay put" in hot weather.
Help prevent skin from absorbing talc and pigment from your foundation as well as preventing talc from drawing oil from the skin.
Basically they provide a perfect base to apply make-up and make-up will only look good if you have the perfect base. But as I said before, in all up to the individual, some skins are more perfect than other and don't need such things as primers.

I use one which is called "smahbox photo finish" skin primer on all most of my clients and it has helped.
Hope this helps you.

I'm not sure if all primers are different. I am a Mary Kay consultant and we don't have a skin or lash primer but we do have a lip and eye primer. They are used to make eye makeup and lipstick last longer . . . ie no smudging or running. Hope that helps.

What, foundation? I use foundation when I'm doing all over make up. If I'm just using mascara, then I don't. The foundation I use is pretty good at covering up small blemishes and under eye circles. I also use a cream stuff on my eye lids before I put on shadow- it makes the color more vibrant and helps it stay on longer. I don't know of any lash "primer" except for using clear mascara before regular mascara.
