Yes. When you get pregnant for the first time, it take more to stretch out your abdominal muscles and uterus. When you are on your second pregnancy, those muscles and tendons have been stretched to max already and you tend to show much quicker. I am not sure if you should be in maternity clothes yet because your little one is only a few cm big. I started to wear maternity pants early because they were so comfortable. You might be retaining water. If your ankles, hands, face, or legs become swollen, i highly recomend that you go and see your doc. It's not weird that you are wearing the pants... this is an exciting time... take it all in! God bless.

I gave birth to 5 children prior to my current pregnancy. I didn't wear maternity pants until around 10 weeks. I'm pregnant with twins.
There are a few reasons why you need to wear pants early. Having prior pregnancies is not a reason. Better reasons would be either multiple fetuses, fibroids, or you're really further along than you think.
At your first prenatal checkup, talk to your OB/GYN about how this. Most doctors now have a portable ultrasound right there in their office, and your questions will be easily answered. If your doctor does not, request an ultrasound and it should be granted. Being larger than normal size is considered a medical necessity, and if you have maternity coverage with your insurance, it should be covered under your benefit plan. If your doctor suggests not to get an ultrasound - I would look for another OB.

Women tend to show earlier with 2nd pregnancies, but 5 weeks, come on, you just took the test. Are you sure you need maternity pants already, the fetus is about at big as your pinkie finger nail.

i'm currently pregnant with my second child and i didn't start showing until about 10-12 weeks. But everything does get bigger faster. I would assume how quickly you show has to so with your size when you became pregnant. Are you small framed and skinny? Have you had your first ultrasound? Maybe you are further along than you think.

Yes, you look pregnant faster in your second pregnancy. It's just because your body knows what to do this go round.
My midwife likened it to a stocking that maintains the shape of your leg after you've taken it all. It's like your body has a pregnancy memory.

the book I am reading called What to expect when You are expecting...they addressed this question and said that most of the time in second pregnancies the mother will show sooner rather than later...dont stress, just eat healthy, exercize and be happy....worry about the weight once the baby is here...good luck and Congratulations!

No. I'm in my 3rd pregnancy. You show at different times. If it's been longer than a year than your last, your uterus should've shrunk back to it's normal size. Ask your ob.

Seriously? First off, congratulations. But are you sure you're only 5 weeks along. That seems almost impossible to be showing that much. Second baby or not. Are you sure you not just really self conscious about it and think you're bigger than you really are????
The baby is only an inch or so if that. You should probably talk to your doctor.

You tend to show more quickly in a second pregnancy. It's nothing to worry about.
