If you are interested in Alexander's military prowess, I would strongly recommend you pick up J.F.C. Fuller's book "The Generalship of Alexander the Great." It describes the make up, training, and equipment of the Macedonian army that Alexander inherited from his father; Alexander's major battles; his sieges; and more.
It's about 350 pages and there's a decent chance your local library will have it (they can certainly get it via inter library loan). For the length, it's probably the best book for learning the "how" of his conquests. If you really are interested in this, I'd strongly recommend this book.

For the Greeks Alexander conquered the known world!
In reality Alexander conquered the Balkan tribes (outside of the Greek areas), Asia Minor, Palestine, Egypt, Mesopotamia and some parts of India (actually Pakistan).
As you can see he did build a gigantic Greek empire that stretched from Greece to India!
How he did it? Well the answer is complicated!
First of all Alexander made his small Greek kingdom of Macedonia (the Greek Macedonia) the most powerful Greek state (following his father work!)
Secondly he managed (mainly with force) to unite all the Greek states (except Sparta) into a common league. For the first time the Greeks could use their entire energy to attack the Persian Empire which was the super power of it time!
Also he was a military genius and he used the advanced Greek military techniques against the vast Persian Armies.
He was not seen by the nations of the Persian Empire as a conqueror but as a liberator!
But above all he didn’t force other nations to accept the Greek ways! Instead he fused Asian elements in the Greek culture and he formed the new Hellenistic (Greek) civilization.
As you can see it was a job well done. Unfortunately he died before he managed to complete his vision for a Global Greek world.
{Note that Alexander was from the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia or Macedon (the Greek or real Macedonia), not from the modern state of Slav-Macedonia (or FYROM or Makedonija).
The confusion has started a few years ago because that small state started to use the name “Republic of Macedonia” causing a great confusion with real Macedonia in Greece.}

The whole of Greece & parts of Asia - his conquests went as far as the Indus Valley & bordered in the north by the Oxus River. His conquest in Africa was limited to Egypt & the eastern fringes of Libya only because his main aim was to strike eastward.

He conquered most of the north Eastern/western (whatever it is) hemisphere. He did it all by war. I know that I'm not very descriptive about how much he conquered, but that is the best I can do.
