Whether or not it was a reaction to fear is inconsequential. Using that logic all reactions to fear would be wrong and we all know that is not the case. After 9/11 everyone was pushing the government to do something to take action. It was a very strong reaction to a very real threat. People did what they had to do to protect themselves. There was no way to know if the Japanese in America were a threat or not. Just as there was no way to know if there were WMD in Iraq until someone went and looked. Our forefathers did what they had to do to protect their land, their country and families. When it happens the next time the same thing will happen and 50 years after that someone who wasn't there will be questioning whether or not it was appropriate.

Absolutely not. They posed no threat whatsoever. Many had never even been to Japan and had NO emotional nor political connection with the land of their parents. This is among the great travesties in American history and is inexcusable. Roosevelt simply listened to reactionary advice and should have questioned it further.

It has not stood up in the eyes of later generations, no. But remember that many of the people involved were asked to swear allegiance to the U.S. and fore-swear allegiance to the Emperor (considered a deity) and would not do so. Persons of German and Italian extraction were maltreated in many cases, but not rounded up and carted to concentration camps almost as bad as Indian reservations.
