this isn't serious. It's called a contusion-the soft spot in the middle was your body's way of forming a "cushion" in front of the part of your shin bone that you bumped to allow it to heal.

A contusion is a bump that happens under the skin after an injury. This bump is caused when fluid collects under the skin.

it should go away within two weeks

to treat it:

for the first 48 hours-apply ice to it for no more than 15 mins at a time and wrap the ice pack in a washcloth. this will help numb the pain and also slow down the bleeding under the skin.

after 48 hours-a warm washcloth applied for 10 mins 2-3 times per day will help to increase the circulation to that area and help the skin reabsorb the blood faster.

you can take ibuprofen to help with pain and swelling. take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.

do not take aspirin b/c it thins the blood and will prolong the bleeding and slow down the healing process

hope you feel better soon

You should have it checked. If you hit it on the end of the handle bar and you have pin pointed pain where the bruise is it may feel fine now but it could develope into compartment compression syndrome. It will start getting red and really sore if it does. Get it checked right away if this happens.

. First , is this spot kinda numb? If so you may have broken or splintered the bone, Its hard to say.Can you walk? I bet its just a bad bruise. They will make many colors until they heal. The next time make sure you put an ice pack on your fresh bump it will not bruise as bad.

No. It's not serious. You will probably even end up with a dent in your shin; in the bone. I don't know a whole lot of people who haven't escaped life without one. My daughter has one in her forehead where my son hit her with a coffee cup when he was 1 years old and she was 3 years old. Before my husband could grab it out of his hand, he hit her again! I rushed her to the ER and that was what he did, dented her skull. That's what you did, dented your shin.

no it's nothing to be worried about...all bruises have a soft spot like that some are just more noticeable than others...like the ones on the bones as apposed to your thigh where there is more fat and muscle.
