I took my sentra to the shop for a routine oil change and he did a full throttle body cleaner...the car ran great before I dropped it off..then when I picked it up it didn't run over 20mph...the mechanic said that it was nothing to do with the cleaning, however, the car was fine when I took it in..how would one explain this and is there the slightest possibility that it did damage the MAF sensor?

If the MAF sensor was contaminated with ANYTHING that is silicone based, YES that would damage it definitely. CLEANING the MAF sensor is possible, BUT ONLY WITH THE CORRECT PRODUCT.

It's possible that it was a coincidence, but given the information, not very likely. A throttle body clean does Not include spraying the MAF or any other sensor. The clean involves removing sludge and carbon fron the throttle plate and the venturi of the throttle body. You might want to talk to a Nissan dealer in order to get their take on this maybe they could offer you some advice on how to approach the mechanic who worked on your car.

yeah he could of certain chemical can ruin the MAF sensor if its not avoided. In fact therre isn't one i know of that doesn't. You probably have a hot wire MAF and those are really sensitive to chemicals. If he did spray it then yeah its his fault. for the record ive been a mechanic for 5 years and have five ASE's plus TOYOTA certified

Duh, the cleaning screwed it up, don't be fooled by them, put your foot down. They must have got cleaner on the wire that is very sensitive. Make them pay for the damages, People like that is what makes us mechanics have a bad name.
