BIG TIME NO!!!! A "locked" engine, or more commonly referred as "hydrolocked" engine, means that some form of "liquid" (coolant or water), somehow made it's way into the combustion chamber causing the engine to "lock". If you remember your laws of physics, a GAS is compressible, but a LIQUID is NOT!!! Therefore, something has to give, and if it's not the liquid, it's an engine part (piston, connecting rod, crankshaft etc.), in which case, NO, it can't be fixed.

I've looked at the other answers you've gotten, so I won't add to your misery. If the engine seized from lack of oil or overheating, you might be able to save a few parts. If it hydrolocked(fluid in a cylinder, you may be able to replace the bent rod, depending it it seized while running or sitting then trying to start it. I've had an engine hydrolock from coolant seeping into a cylinder, and found out while trying to start it. I was fortunate the engine wasn't hurt but it required head and intake gaskets(we took a chance and it worked). If it was running and seized, the chances are poor that it didn't get hurt.

close the hood - bypass back to the region that replaced her oil the final time - tell them that because of the fact the final oil exchange the motor vehicle has progressed a knock and would desire to they please verify it out. They left the oil cap off - which has brought about the engine to expel a competent part of the oil that exchange into in the engine after the oil exchange. Your spouse has been working low on oil for a collectively as - not her fault, the fault of the corporate that did the oil exchange. in case you have a thank you to checklist them checking the motor vehicle you will desire to realize this because of the fact an cheating save will placed an oil cap on and then declare that the engine in basic terms "went undesirable" and had not something to do with what they did (which isn't genuine) it somewhat is not that uncommon regrettably - maximum shops hire green mechanics to do batteries, tires and oil alterations. They technique is rapidly forward yet leaving off an oil cap or not tightening the drain plug are user-friendly occurances that reason problems for the shopper. the load is on you to instruct they left the cap off - determine you have the receipt from the final oil exchange once you bypass in - the engine has injury, they might desire to pay for it. that's achievable that the engine is in basic terms low on oil and the lifters are tapping - wherein case a pair quarts of oil will preserve the challenge. If is is low on oil, the region the did the exchange would desire to replace the oil and filter out back. solid luck to you - i know how confusing motor vehicle problems would properly be

Michel is right, also I believe that if the engine is locked, you beter take a good look at the rest of the drivetrain. I have fixed a lot of bad engines, but most of them are from neglect. In a Camaro or other high performance car it is from abuse.

A lot of things can cause it. It is always expensive. mostly running out of oil, or the oil stopped getting to were it needed to. You might need a new engine. $3000.00 installed. To start. Depending on the kind of car. That price is probably low.

it really depends on how its locked. sometimes a locked engine can be fixed fairly easily if its just a lack of oil.usually just fill the cylinders with a little oil and attempt to turn the engine by hand. But if you can't turn it let it sit for a while.. if still no luck then congrats on your new engine purchase!

I engine was leaking oil. my mistake is I filled it with to much oil. I started the car and immediately the car started to shake. I put the car into drive and started to drive. I drove a few feet and the car shut down. Did the engine lockup? is it fixable?

a locked engine will be too costly to repair. rings and all bearings will have to be replaced and even maybe the crankshaft and camshaft and pistons
