We cut it to keep it from setting seed, thus keeping it in a vegetative state, not a reproductive state. When a plant goes thru reproduction, it slows or quits growing......either temporarily or permanently.

By keeping the grass in the vegetative state, it will tend to thicken in it's appropriate manner, tillering in some cases, sending out rhizomes in others.

Also we keep cutting so we can find the dog poop!

The only reason people cut their grass is, because It's for "cosmetic" appeal.
The grass will grow just fine, it doesn't need to be cut to grow.
Look at any un-mowed field out away from town.
Hope this helps, Dave

I don't think grass is cut to make it grow better, if you wanted grass to grow better you would leave it until it has set seeds then cut it.

Cutting grass makes it spread better. If it gets too tall, it will not spread as well. It's just like any other plant. When you take out the new growth, you get a thicker, more lush plant. It allows for more grown. That's why you mow. Plus, if you allow the clippings to go back into the soil, you add nutrients.

Cutting grass does not make it grow better. We cut grass to make it look prettier, more uniform. To make grass grow better you must provide the right nutrients and sunlight. There are many grasses that look better when they are not cut.

The reason we mow our lawn is to get the nitrogen from the weeks fertilizer before. out of the blade and make the blade work to stay green. If we didn't the grass would grow into a weed, unsightly, ugly, and not worthy.. It is a known fact that a tree that is stacked not so tight with tree poles will grow larger then trees stacked with duck bills.. hope this answers your q.
