The employer is not legally obligated in most U.S. states, but their insurance liability and worker's comp policies, and well as their legal counsel would require it for the company's protection.

If the injury is bad enough, the hospital will call the police. I don't think the employer is legally obligated as much as morally and if any damage was done to property, there would need to be a police report filed for insurance purposes.

I wouldn't count on any employer to do anything except look after their own interests. Whether or not they are legally obligated, you would be best to ask an attorney. If you were assaulted, then it is YOUR responsibility to see that it is reported, & if no one has the decency to do it for you, then you will have to do it yourself.

You should call 911 for any level of assault. I am not sure that an employer would know to do this, knowing some employers.

If it happened in front of your employer YES they are responsible for reporting this action to the Authorities, If not its your responsibility to do it, first try your boss, if he is not inclined to do it, then you do it from your work yourself do not do it from home, If it was one of your fellow workers who committed the assault, then it IS up to your employer to advice the police of this action. if he does not do it then do it yourself from work and have the police come on site at your workplace I would bet that's what your Boss does not want to happen..Good Luck to you

You should have them call the police regardless. If its an issue of workmen's comp. then it depends on what you were doing. The police should be contacted as it's assault.
