Let x be the smallest angle
The second angle is 4x.
The third angle is the sum of the other two or (x+4x)
All three add up to 180 so...
x (first angle) + 4x (second angle) + (x+4x) (third angle) = 180
x + 4x + (x+4x) = 180
10x = 180
x = 18

Well, if the total is 180, then they would both have to be 90, or one would have to be 90, and the other would have to be 90...therefore, the equation for the two angles would be 4x + x = 90, and 5x=90 = x=18, so the three angles would be 18, (4x) or 72, and 90.
How does that sound?

so you know the total degrees for the triangle is 180.
one angle = x
second angle = 4x
third angle is those two together = x + 4x
add them all up to get 180
x + 4x + (x+4x) = 180
solve! yay

1st <= x
2nd<=y
3rd<=z
x= 4y
z=x+y
180=x+y+z
180= 4y+y+z
180=10y
18=y
x=4(18) = 72
z= 90

this is one of those 'work backwards' problems and they are very simple when you have the sort of mind that you can sort things out in your brain. what u have to do is work out the problem backwards. add the degrees of the angles they already gave you and subtract that ammount from 180.

4x + x + (4x + x) = 180º
10x = 180º
Angle one > x= 18º
Angle two > 4x= 72º
Angle three is the sum of 72º + 18º = 90º
