Franklin D. Roosevelt was crippled by polio and remained largely unable to walk for much of his life.

By the time Beethoven completed his 9th Symphony he was completely deaf.

General George Patton was dyslexic.

1) My mom's best friend is blind. She went to college and majored in Occupational Therapy. She had to take all tests orally, (and spell theses long medical terms), and still graduated in the top 10 of her class. This was after her divorce, while being a single mom.
2) Johnny Erickson Tada.As a teenager she broke her neck diving into a swimming pool, paralyzed from the neck down. Great artist. Holds pen/pencil between teeth to create her work.
3) Sue Thomas (yes she is a real person). Worked in filing for the FBI. She is deaf, but they found out she could read lips, so they advanced her to an agent, to help on stake-outs etc.

Thomas Alva Edison's sister was deaf and her plight encouraged him to work on a hearing system for deaf persons,
