Her last period (end of July to end of August) lasted a month. She just got her period a couple days ago. What does this sound like to you? I'm freaking out!!!!!!!

sounds like maybe your mom should go for a check up. probably just a sign of early menopause.

Has she seen a doctor? A period lasting a month long may be too long. I hope you know she is going through menopause, but it is possible for her to lose too much blood. A similar thing happened to my mom, but her longest period was only 2 weeks or so long. She was hospitalized and developed anemia. The doctors wanted her to get a blood transfusion, but she recovered and thankfully didn't need it. I recommend you ask her if she has seen a doctor and try to convince her and if she doesn't agree, get another responsible adult to take her to a doctor. And don't worry, everything will be okay.

she needs a biopsy of the lining of her uterus. this problem is exceedingly common for women in their 40's approaching menopause. the ultrasound is fine and good to look for fibroids and maybe polyps, but as a test for cancer- it just does not give enough information. an ultrasound can be used to rule out cancer in a POST menopausal woman but it is not useful in a woman who is still cycling. an endometrial biopsy is a simple, quick biopsy done in the doctors office. takes a minute or so and does involve cramping but is over very quickly. if she does not get one, she really should ask about it. most likely she does not have cancer, however, the only way to know for sure is to go looking for it. by the way, if i ever get cancer i sure hope it is uterine, if caught early can be cured with a simple hysterectomy and should not affect her life at all. good luck to you and your mom.

maybe she needs to see a gyn doctor. long term bleeding could be a sign of an abnormal growth in her ovaries or uterus, she might need an ultrasound done to check her internal organs

I had the same problem! I went to the ER to get some answers...and they said...."We're sorry, you just have to put up with it, or take the Pill". Woo Hoo....

this is extremely common in this age group and can be caused by many different things but usually is due to the perimenopause. fibroids, polyps, hormonal, cancer (not usually cancer though) can all be causes. your mother needs to see her gyn doc. there are all sorts of treatment available.
