Set up a proportion


2in/xin 3in/42

cross multiply

42*2=84

3*x=3x

x=84/3

x=28

The picture will retain the same ratio of width and height. Let X = the new length - there fore:

2/3=X/42 multiply both sides by 42:

84/3=X X=28"

42 = 14 inches times the length
so to keep it in proportion you have to times 14 x width (or 14 x 2)
which =28 so the picture is 28" x42" now, instead of 2"x3"
