An extra point is attempted after a team scores a touchdown. The kicker comes out and kicks what would be a 19 yd field goal(give or take). It is worth one point.

an extra point is also officially known as a PAT (point after try).
After every touchdown the team that just scored a touchdown (for 6 points) gets 1 attempt at either an extra point or 2 point conversion.
In either case the ball is placed at the 2 yard line. If an extra point is attempted the team will line up in a field goal formation that means the ball will be kicked from approx the 9 yard line. With the depth of the endzone included, this means the extra point is about a 19 yard field goal (10 yards for the endzone, 2 yards for the initial ball placement, and an additional 7 yards for where the holder holds the ball when it is kicked).
In most cases, you ony get one chance for an extra point, unless a penalty is committed by the defense, in which case the ball will be moved half the distance to the goal line (which is 1 yard closer). If the team that is kicking commits a penalty, then the ball can be pushed back farther away from the endzone making the kick harder to make (even though it is still very close)
PATs are almost always made. I feel bad for teams that have kickers that can't make the PAT (its more likely to be blocked than missed outright if you ask me).
There are some quirky rules that people dont know about.
The kicking team has a long snapper that can't be hit until he raises his head. So he snaps the ball, and can't be hit until he raises his head to see who is hitting him. This makes it pointless for the defense to line someone up over top of him, because they can't rush the kicker from there.
If a team elects to go for a 2 point conversion, they must score another touchdown (on 1 try) from the 2 yard line. If they succeed, they get 2 points (not another 6).

An "extra point" or "point after touchdown" is a placekick or legally executed dropkick that travels over the crossbar and between the uprights and is attempted after a touchdown. This is worth 1 point. A 2 point extra point is scored when the offense scores by running or passing the ball over the goalline after a touchdown. In college football, the defense can score two points by blocking a PAT kick, recovering a fumble or intercepting a pass and returning it the length of the field.

An extra point is after you score a touchdown, you have the opportunity to kick it and score an extra point. You also have the opportunity to go for two extra points by scoring another touchdown, but if you miss you don't get any. An extra point is worth one point.

an extra point will be worth only one point, and can be earned by kicking the football through the goal post after a touchdown is made. However, a two point conversion can be made as well, which is a team's atempmt to cross into the endzone from the 5 yard line.
