i got this weird stuff but i narowed it down to this 2y + 5 + 11x -1 = 180 I know i need do system of equations or something but how wuld i do that?

ok, well first off, you can have two variables, i repeat you CAN. Its not against the laws of math. I'm in geometry right now to. Anyway, you have to solve the equations by first getting rid of your one(the negative one). by doing that, you have to do the opposite of what the number is. Since its negative, you have to add it to the other side. so it would be 180+1=181. Then do the same thing with the 5. Since its positive, you would subtract. 181-5=176. Now the equation should look like 2y+11x=176. Now, just divide by the coefficient of the variables. so...176/11= 16, and 176/2=88.

x=16
y=88

P.S. If you are trying to solve a system of linear equations in two variables, you would need to have two x letters and two y letters in the equation or else there is nothing to solve. See my point? Go back to your notes or book and get back to me with the correct question.

You don't seem to have enough information given here. In order to solve a system of equations, you need a second equation.

You can't, because there are two variables but only one equation. What was the original problem?
