For example, is a barbados sheep better than a southdown sheep? Or would it be better to buy a llama? or a goat? and why?

I think that a sheep would be the best, because, from my experience, they keep the grass real short, and I mean REAL SHORT. Llamas don't do so well, and I know this (even though I'm only 13), because our friends have some.

Sheep are good though the will graze to the roots unless moved around. A mini horse would be good also. Goats are mainly bush and vine eaters. We use them to clear brushy areas here. Check with the city on the laws also. Rember grass doesn't grow year around in all places and most grzers require additional feed such as grain.

A goat will not "mow your lawn". They really do not eat grass..they mostly eat weeds and brush.
Sheep will eat grass.

But why bother paying for the care for an animal when it is cheaper to buy a lawnmower?

You gotta like southdown sheep, both because they keep the lawn trimmed nicely and, at the end of the season, you got wool to make a sweater and a few tasty meals.

Lots of animals eat grass, llamas, alpacas, horses, mules, goats. I don't know if it would be legal to have a goat in your front yard in the city or a town? Good luck with it.

How about a minaiture horse. They are so cute and won't eat everything in sight like a goat would, altho I really love goats. I wouldn't want them in the front yard tho.

You will need to be able to rotate the grazing no matter what. A goat will eat the grass right to the roons, and then you will have dirt and not a lawn.
