When the teacher tells you to type a detailed sentenced in each paragraph does that mean a discriptive sentence like this:
It was a cold stormy night.
Or does it mean to use words that are very smart or words that you could find in a thesaures. Please help me.

write all the details down what happened where did it take place, who was it about. You just cant write. It was a night. You need to tell us what kind of night was it.. full detail about the night..

Your teacher means for you to use words you know, but be very descriptive. Leave the reader with a feeling of exactness. They shouldn't have any questions after reading each sentence.

It was a cold stormy night. <---- When? Where? Who was there?

Opposed to:

Surrounded by echos of thunder and a chilling ambiance, the villagers of Salem steered away from the diabolic forest.

Describe feelings, taste, thoughts, sight, smells, and the 5 W's & H (who, what, when, where, why, how).

Detailed just means that it is very descriptive - there are a lot of details. Instead of saying it was a dark night, you would say that it was a dark night, lit only by the faint light of the moon through the clouds. It doesn't need to have a lot of educated words in it, just a lot of details about your subject. Compare 'my horse is black' with 'my horse is as black as night, with eyes the color of emeralds'.

now using a thesauraus has never actually...effectively worked for any of my english classes, since we are too young or too naive to know how to use the "fancy" word. if you dont know how to use the word, just dont use it.
being descriptive means that all of the senses are touched upon. depends on what kind of essay or composition this is. creative writing: imagery = description/detail. expository: facts= detail (meaning statistics, published findings, etc)

My idea of a descriptive sentence is what you first mentioned; "It was a cold stormy night." Good luck
