Try to list both sides and then tell me why you support one over the other. I am trying to understand this whole issue without being judgemental. (For example I heard on NPR today someone say he is pro-choice but with some limitations. I want to understand where one draws the line).

PS I AM NOT considering abortion as some of you misread - I never said that (it is written in plain English, people!)

I am past the child bearing age and I never faced the choice of whether I keep or abort my baby. But I am trying to understand why this is such a sensitive issue either ways.

there is no straight pro or con . . .

Abortion is an option, in my opinion, best within the first 10 weeks or if there are serious medical problems. I do not support abortion as a form of birth control, even though some people do abuse it.

I see from above the con listed is murder, as there are many selfish people out there that would not answer your question and simply list it as "murder" I say:

I am pro-choice

it is each person's individual choice and I don't think others have the right to challenge another person in this decision. If someone thinks it's murder, then it's fine and dandy-go ahead and have an opinion, but don't except the entire world to roll over and do nothing but accommodate your views of "life".

We are each different and will live different lives, we make decisions everyday. I don't think you can really condemn a person without knowing them and you cannot generalize the entire population of women that have chosen to abort a child as "a s.lut who didn't use birth control"

If you don't believe in abortion then just don't have one, but REMEMBER THIS birth control is never 100% effective 100% of the time.

Pros And Cons Of Abortion

2016-10-05 03:06:01 · answer #2 · answered by ? 4 · 1 0

The pros:
Abortion is neccessary for people who were careless and don't or will never have the resources to keep a child. Children who are born to mothers who don't want them, become burdens and neglected and worse. The life was truly spared from a lifetime of pain and abuse of all sorts.

The cons:
Women who walk away from the abortion clinic at the last minute and end up keeping the babies, somehow pull together, even without the father, and have the greatest joy they've ever known with the child. They realize that to abort would have been a huge mistake and are glad they didn't go through with it.

when I first saw this question I put it on my watch list because I wanted to see how many threw up the murder card-I am not surprised.
I was adopted as an infant.
I have been pregnant 3 times.
I have 1 child
the first pregnancy- I wanted the child so at 19 I kept the child and that child is now a teenager and the light and trial of my soul.
the second pregnancy-I miscarried and was relieved
the third pregnancy-my (then now ex)husband and I decided together to abort. Neither one of us ever regretted making that choice.

I just wanted MY life experiences with this subject known.
I am pro CHOICE-obviously but how did I get here.
I was raised in a religious pro-life setting by my adoptive parents and educated in private Christian schools until my junior year of high school.

I do NOT believe abortion should be used to REPLACE the responsible USE of birth control. Abortion for NONMEDICAL reasons should only be used -in my opinion-in the following situations and no later than the end of the 1st trimester:
Rape
Incest
When conventional Birth Control measures FAIL
PEROID
if you do not care enough about yourself or partner to have (semi)safe sex using birth control BEFORE conception then you should not be engaging in an activity that can KILL YOU and YOUR PARTNER.

Pros-
no birth control method is 100% effective except for abstinance
Abortions are a LEGAL and SAFE medical procedure
No woman should be forced to act as an incubator because of someone elses religious beliefs.
HERE ARE SOME FACTS:
"Aborting fetuses is something that has been done for a very long time.
In ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome fetuses were aborted by herbs or by manipulation as a form of birth control.
Up until the 19th century abortion was generally accepted (in early stages of pregnancy), and in the 1800’s attitudes changed – the practice was prohibited, by the Roman Catholic Church, and English Common Law. In Canada abortion was made illegal in 1869.
During the 20th century opinions changed once again and abortion was now becoming legalized in many European countries, and in Japan. In 1973 the US Supreme Court made a ruling that abortions are permitted during the first 6 months of pregnancy.
In 1988 the Canadian Supreme Court completely did away with Canada’s abortion law.
Though abortion has become more and more accepted, the issue still remains very controversial, and very complicated in cases where the mother and/or babies are in high risk of danger. Today women are gaining more access to abortion, and fetal reduction, and are even being encouraged by doctors in certain cases (especially multifetal pregnancies) to undergo the procedure. This is causing ethical and emotional conflicts among women, and families, dealing with this decision.

Cons-
abortions can and do (after repeated abortions) damage a woman's ability to carry a fetus to term.
abortions can emotionally devastate the woman that has one if she is in any way unsure it is the right choice for her.
abortions are being over used because of the illusion of convience by the uneducated.
abortion can "hide" an unwanted pregnancy from parents/spouses but leaves the woman (and her partner)vulnerable to other things like STD's and HIV

While adoption IS an option-just because you give the child away in hopes of a better life doesn't mean they will HAVE a better life.
Just because you give a child away does NOT mean they won't find you in 20 years and ask "WHY?" what about the emotional devastation brought on by that-for BOTH birthparent and child.
I HATE hearing that adoption is the "loving" choice. Being adopted does NOT mean you will be exempt from being abused, raped or otherwise injured during your childhood.

The bottom line it is a very personal and difficult choice for most women. I do not believe I am a murderer and am grateful that I live in country that values MY intelligence, life and health instead of imposing some one else's religious beliefs into my medical choices.

People who are pro-choice want abortion to stay legal for many reasons:
1. If it's illigal women will still get them done but it will be dangerous.
2. They worry some women will hide the pregnancy, have the baby secretly and abandon it in a dumpster.
3. They worry that some women will continue to drink, do drugs, or smoke while pregnant. Some women don't care at all about the baby because they are giving it up for adoption.
4. Some feel if a woman is raped she should have the right to have an abortion.
5. Pro-choice people worry about the increase in poverty that will happen if abortion were illigal. Many women want to keep their baby after they have it and end up not being able to support it.

Pro-life people only argue that it's murder.

pros: a baby won't be born to someone who doesn't want them or won't properly take care of them.

cons: you may seriously regret it, physical problems that may complicate having a baby later on in life, social repurcussions.

I think if you do it immediately, such as the morning after pill, then it's ok, since there really is no baby yet. Otherwise, why do we use birth control pills?? It's the same thing. The pill prevents the fertilization.
If a girl/woman is raped or molested, they Should have a choice since they did NOT choose to engage in the acts that led to pregnancy.

I have had an abortion the pro. is that I couldn't have been a good mother at that point in my life and I would have been able to provide for my child financially...I use birth control and because of the way i ovulate it didn't work. I didn't use condoms because i was in a long term relationship and i thought my doctor knew what he was doing! There are so many reasons why people make these choices rape, inses, drug addicts, selfishness the list goes on I have a child now and I am very happy but i had to get and implant to stop me from getting pregnant,I actually had more then one abortion because of me producing so many eggs during different weeks in a month. The point is the word is choice and me and other women who do this have to deal with the decisions we maker will decide if we are right are wrong and no one else!

These people on this board make me sick. Give me a break, murderer? There are situations where an abortion is the best thing to do at the time. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean you have to say such things to people. The woman should be the one to decide what she wants to do with her body, not you people on this board ot the government. It's a womans' choice plain and simple. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
