I'm only a freshman in college, but I really want to know more about what my options are. Im planning on seeing the counselor eventually, but they are really busy because there are TONS of psych majors. Anyway, I'm not sure if I have the ability to pursue medical school just yet, but I do want to go to some type of grad school for sure. Are there any good websites that list what types of jobs that I could get depending on my degree? It would also help if it listed the job requirements, and average pay. Thank you! =)

I am a recent psych grad myself and have found that it is ESSENTIAL to attend graduate school if you want a decent salary. As it is, I'm working as a teacher's assistant with autistic children until I go to grad school for social work next year. Your best bet is to ask not only your career center but your psychology professors, they have a wealth of knowledge and they love getting asked for advice. If you are interested in med school, maybe you should consider a neuroscience major bc it combines both psych and bio. Good look in your search!

ps. the good thing about psych is that it applies many places...education, marketing, federal government, human resources, social work, etc!!

I would recommend www.salary.com for seeing the average salaries for many jobs. If you want to become a professional psychologist, you'll need to attend graduate school and get a Ph.D. A master's degree might get you some counseling positions though.

The most important lesson you can ever learn is that a college major doesn't limit you to that profession. Psychology majors can go into many corporate business positions and probably any type of job you set your mind to. Ask yourself what type of job YOU really want to do and go for it, don't depend just on the job counselors for unlocking what you really want to do in life.

You can get a job with a bachelors but you usually don't make very much money unless you go on for a masters. If you don't feel that you could go to med school then just go get a masters in social work and become a clinical social worker. You can still be a psychotherapist that way. As far as websites, they're abundant but your best bet is to go to your career counselor at school.
