It's not really his eye, but right next to his eye, he has a huge red lump. It started to swell..and now it's not getting any bigger. It was pink first and then it gradually turned into a reddish color. The size isn't changing, but the color is. What can I do about it? What is it?

How much would it cost to go to the vet? I've never gone there before. Is there a home remedy?

It's most likely some kind of abscess that needs lanced, drained, then treated with an antibiotic. It could stem from an eye infection or it could be the result of even a teeth problem. I recommend taking it to a vet. If it is an infection, he'll probably need to take a quick look at the puss inside it to determine the proper anitbiotic to use. It's not major surgery by any means, so it shouldn't cost that much. A good vet should be able to give you an estimate of how much it should cost and an option of if you want to do it or not. My vet never charged over $20-30 for something like that. Some types of infections a vet can even tell from the particular smell the puss gives off.

Its possible that your rabbit has a cyst if its not directly on his eye. If thats what it is, your vet will be able to remove it. Also, he could have scratched himself, & then the wound has got infected. Your vet can give you an antibiotic ointment that you can put on his eye once or twice a day till it clears up.

Either way, it sounds like you need to take him to the vet.

Good luck!

I don't know and only a vet will be able to tell you. You should call your vet and get your bunny in as soon as possible. Be sure your vet is "rabbit savvy" as not all vets are trained to care for bunnies.

Here are two links - one on eye infections [your vet may want the first link} and one on selecting a rabbit savvy vet.

Would you want a home rememdy for something like this if it were you? If you can't afford the vet then you can't afford the pet! Go to http://www.rabbit.org and you can find several vets in different states.
