Last time, it got infected because I changed it right away. Any tips on how to keep it decorative but not get infected? I got it because I love changing the style of it. And different colors. But I dont want it to get infected.

if you're using the ring w/ball piercing, then change the ball and hang different charms on it. you remove the ball and hang a charm of your choice provided it has the o-ring large enough (you can also fix this yourself), put the ball back on and voila!!! a new belly ring w/out change the actual ring!
have fun with that!

LEAVE IT ALONE until it's done healing. You've answered your own question about how not to get it infected...don't change it. You have to realized that the jewelry is the only barrier between an open wound an the outside world full of bugs and contaminants. AFTER it heals, you're free to change the jewelry, but until that time passes, you have to be nice to it...gentle. Hanging charms on it before it's healed is like picking at scabs...it just keeps it irritated and sore, prolongs the healing, and will lead to scarring.
Be Patient...and care for it exactly as the piercer instructed.

I remember when I got mine done I had to wash the area well with an antibacterial soap, like Dial, twice a day. They told me to cover the belly button area with soap including in the belly button open area, and then GENTLY move the jewelry up and down a COUPLE of times to get the soap "inside" the piercing. Then I had to rinse the area just as well, to include moving the piercing up and down again, only a couple of times, to rinse out the "inside." They told me not to apply anything like bacitracin or neosporin because that helps a cut close and heal and you don't the holes of the piercing to scab.
Also, do not go swimming in a pool for six weeks. Do not change it out for six weeks. When I got my upper ear lobe pierced and lived in Hawaii at the time, I was told that going in the ocean was okay because of the natural healing power of the ocean. Just be sure the water is clean since so many areas of the ocean nowadays are so polluted.

you need to let that close up before messing with changing the jewlry. listen to what the piercer said, take her advice. also get some Sea Salt (you can get it in the grocery store) and mix a little in warm water. use a q tip to clean the piercing, its very soothing and helps it to heal. but DONT disregard what the piercer told you, be smart about this, last thing you want is a nice fat scar from an infection.

Just change the ball, not the whole ring. And even then, disinfect any new ball you might be changing to. DO NOT PULL THE WHOLE RING OUT! Keep the area clean using antibacterial soap--and make sure your belly button area dries completely after washing.
You can use a blow dryer to make sure it's dry.

wait the required time period before you change it. i got my pierced about a year ago and waited like i was supposed to. though it was hard to wait seeing all the cool and pretty rings to go in it. wait and it won't get infected again. use sea salt to help the healing too.
